Happiness Project - Are You Happy?

Alex Shalman of Practical Personal Development is conducting a “Happiness Project” over at his blog. Alex is asking people 5 questions about happiness, what it means to them, and how they deal with it. He’s opened this up to anyone who wants to participate.

A Rebel Belle Yell! and a very “happy” thank you to Stephen Hobson of Adversity University for sharing this project with me. I love “being” happy!

Here are Alex’s questions and my responses.

How do you define happiness?
Happiness to me is a state of being. It is not something I have to work towards or struggle to create. It is my birthright. Happiness is an essence of being to embrace in the moment.

On a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate your happiness now, versus when you were a child?
I’ve always been happy. Happiness to me is a state of being, as opposed to a state of mind. This is DEFINITELY a learned process. As a child, I felt a great sense of freedom. Growing up, I allowed my freedom to be limited by the rules, roles and expectations of others. Part of what blow’s my skirt up as an “adult woman” is the joy and fun of remembering….I’m STILL a child! I get to embrace life with the awe, wonder, excitement and curiosity of a child. What a way to live happy!

So, to answer the question, on a scale of 1-10 I’d answer 10 now and 10 then.

What do you do on a daily basis that brings you happiness (and how consistent is the feeling of happiness throughout your day)?
There is an ebb and flow to everything in life, including happiness. As I mentioned earlier, I love the challenges and opportunities that come into my life that allow me to embrace happiness. It juices me to overcome the fears and conditioning that block the natural flow of happiness into my life.

I look to align what I do with the essences that rock my world; fun, freedom, spiritual community, connection, contribution and flow. When I focus on these things and align my thoughts, emotions and life work with these essences, happiness is a natural result, experience and outflow.

What things take away from your happiness? What can be done to lessen their impact or remove them from your life?
The only thing that can take away from my happiness is ME! So…to lessen that impact I get to do my work, which is to overcome any fear that blocks my flow. I get to work on my issues, embrace uncertainty and live in the world of pure potential and possibility, being my oh so happy self.

What do you plan on doing in the future that will bring you even more happiness?
Squeezing as much juice and joy from my journey as possible being my authentic self, doing what my gifts inspire, investing in essence and the things I love. This is the experience of a fabulous life!

I’m off to BE happiness………………………………

What about you? How do you define happiness and are you happy?
